While Deerfield Beach (FL) High School athlete Dashaun Davis committed to Appalachian State back in late June, he says the relationship with ASU’s staff continues to grow.
The 5-9, 160-pound wide receiver and cornerback has also been offered by Florida Atlantic and Northern Illinois among others.
Davis said the strong relationships he developed with the coaching staff and the program’s tradition were key factors in his commitment and remain a big part of what’s tugging him to the mountains.
“When I took my visit to App State, I knew it was the move for me,” Davis told ASI. “The constant communication I have with the coaching staff and the bonds we are building was definitely the key.
“Also, the recent success they’ve had on the field was huge for me. I love to compete and the coaches do too.”
While some athletes prefer the “big-city, bright-lights” scenery when making their college decisions, Davis was drawn to the small town and friendly environment in Boone. That’s what he wants, along with the football and academic side, and App State offers all of that.
“The athletic facilities are very nice and the small city is very convenient,” Davis said. “The fans show the players a lot of love and that was very exciting for me.”
Davis’ verbal pledge made him the seventh member of ASU’s class of 2019. He plans on getting back to Boone during the fall for a game.
