Reed has ASU high on his list

Appalachian State head football coach Scott Satterfield has long placed an emphasis on making good use of the tight end position. Just prior to Satterfield's return to Boone, the Mountaineers gradually moved away from making the position a focal point in the offense.
The decline in ASU's usage of the tight end in the passing game reflected in the Mountaineers overall success on offense.

Since Satterfield's return, he's brought the position back tot he forefront and is making sure it's a key component to how the Mountaineers play offensively.
In order to maintain that mentality, he and his coaching staff must continually recruit quality tight ends. The Mountaineers feel as though they have found a great fit for their system in Collin Reed out of Boiling Springs (South Carolina) High School.
Reed who attended ASU's June 11 camp, his second unofficial visit to the school, has been in regular contact with the coaching staff.
"Until this recent dead period, daily," Reed said when asked how frequently he speaks with the coaching staff at Appalachian. "Coach (Chris) Foster, coach (Nic) Cardwell and coach Satterfield. They say I remind them of Ben Jorden, a past All-American tight end. And they want me to play at The Rock."
The comparison to Jorden is quite telling in what the Mountaineer staff believes Reed could accomplish in the Black and Gold.
At 6-foot-3, 212-pounds, Reed clearly has the attention of Appalachian State, but do the Mountaineers have his attention?
"It's among my top choices," he said in regards to Appalachian. "The facilities and coaches are top notch.
"I really like coach Cardwell's coaching style and enthusiasm and coach Foster is very easy to relate to because he grew up in the same area as me."
Reed declined to provide a list of schools that join ASU as a top choice. He is however, looking to make a decision before his season begins. And it appears Appalachian has as strong of a chance as anyone at this point in the process.
He currently holds offers from ASU, Charlotte, James Madison, Richmond, Furman, Coastal Carolina, Wofford, Gardner-Webb, Mercer and Western Carolina. He has not received any new offers over the course of that last few weeks.
That said, there are some BCS level schools sniffing around.
"No, nothing new," he said. "Waiting to hear from some bigger schools. North Carolina and Maryland. Both said they have to see how their more nationally recruited offers play out."
Reed recently visited North Carolina, and mad a trip to Maryland in early June. He does not have any other visits planned for the summer.
