Easter breaks down commitment

Signing Day is just two days away, and the Appalachian State coaching staff continues to recruit the 2015 class hard. Monday, Scott Satterfield and his staff picked up yet another in-state commitment.
This time it's Reagan High athlete Jake Easter.

The North Carolina product was previously committed to Old Dominion, but with increased attention from Appalachian, Easter decided to flip his pledge to the Mountaineers.
"I committed yesterday," Easter said. "When they offered me, I was committed to ODU.
"App State is just a great place. All the coaches treat you like they have known you your entire life; they are family kind of people. It's an hour and a half away from home, and some of my family went to App and all I ever hear about App is that it's a great place to be.
"The offense they run is just about identical to what I ran at Reagan. It's a good fit for me."
Easter, who was offered on Jan. 26 by Appalachian, officially visited the weekend prior to picking up the scholarship.
During that trip to Boone, he had a chance to take in the school's facilities and spend some time with the players and coaches.
"The facilities are outstanding," he said. "All the coaches act like they really care about you.
"Taylor Lamb, the QB at App, was my host. He was a great guy and he told me that App State is a great place to be and they are doing great things."
Easter, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound recruit, played quarterback for his high school, and though he has supreme athleticism and speed that would allow him to play multiple positions on the collegiate level, the Mountaineers are targeting him as a signal caller.
A big reason for that is because of his playmaking abilities and composure in tense situations.
"I'm cool in the pocket and I make things happen when nothing is there," he said. "And I'm fast as lightning, which will be very effective in the offense they run."
So what is fast as lightning exactly?
According to Easter it's a 4.31-second 40-yard dash time. Everyone that has been around him and followed his game confirm his blazing speed, as do the handheld timing devices coaches have used throughout camps and combines.
"Handheld," he said when asked if his 40 time was recorded via handheld or electronic devices. "Every time I would run it at camps I would have about five guys timing at the same time."
Easter's commitment makes him the second quarterback in the class to commit, joining three-star talent Daniel David.
