Running back battles should be intense

Over the last few seasons Appalachian State's running game has been a source of pride and frustration for Mountaineer football fans. Since Appalachian switched to the spread offense in 2005, the Mountaineers have been known for their dominating ground game, at least for the biggest portion of that time.

From the 2005 to '07 seasons, the Mountaineers produced three 1,000-yard plus running backs. In each of those seasons, Kevin Richardson served as the Mountaineers premier back, rushing for 1,433 yards in '05, 1,676 yards in '06 and 1,348 yards in '07.
