BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State secured a spot in the 2012 FCS playoffs and solidified a share of the Southern Conference championship with a 33-28 victory over the Furman Paladins Saturday afternoon.

In typical Appalachian-Furman fashion, the game went down to the wire with the teams trading scores throughout the second half of action before the Mountaineers pushed ahead for good early in the fourth quarter.
