Appalachian State's matchup with Western Carolina rarely holds many postseason implications, but for the Mountaineers a win in Cullowhee will be crucial for its bid to make the FCS playoffs and continue fighting for a spot among the SoCon's best.

In addition to the importance of a win for record purposes, the Mountaineers will look to spoil any hopes of an upset from former Appalachian State linebackers coach Mark Speir, who is now the head man of the Catamounts.
